Celebrate National Healthy Skin Month with a Micro-Laser Peel

November is National Healthy Skin month. Most people don’t stop to take time to think about their skin, which is actually the largest organ of your body. Keeping your skin healthy does more than just keep you beautiful. Your skin helps to regulate your temperature, protect you from infection, and even detoxify your body.

The skin on your face is even more important. It must stay flexible to show emotion and protect your eyes nose and mouth. Your face is how everyone recognizes you, but it’s also subject to the wind and sun, to air conditioning and heat. Moisturizers and sun protection may help, but time will take its toll. You can turn back the hands of time with a micro-laser peel.

Micro-laser peels

Peels are just what they sound like; it’s a process that peels off the top layers of skin, revealing younger, healthier skin underneath. The micro-laser peel is a little bit different than traditional peels. The micro-laser doesn’t physically remove the skin like some traditional chemical peels nor does it damage the skin so badly that it leaves scaly or peeling skin behind. Instead, the micro-laser damages the top layer just enough to stimulate the fresh layers underneath.

Micro-laser peels and texture

Touch a baby’s face, and you’ll know what truly smooth skin feels like. As we age, our skin becomes tougher to protect us from everything that life throws our way. This “toughness” occurs because skin refuses to get rid of old skin cells. They heighten the look of pores, making them visible and keeping them open to attract dirt and oils. They heighten the look of scars from acne or irritation and can add years to your face. The micro-laser helps your body get rid of those dead skin cells, minimizing pores and giving your face skin that’s smooth to the touch.

Micro-laser peels and discoloration

The sun is lovely, but what it does to our skin isn’t. Sun spots, freckles, and hyperpigmentation are all damage the sun leaves behind. The good news is, you don’t have to live with it. Micro-laser peels can stimulate the lower layers of skin. These clear, undamaged layers shine through just days after your peel, erasing the spots and signs of aging.

How micro-lasers treat wrinkles

Dr. Foulk uses micro-lasers to treat fine lines and wrinkles. He targets the areas around the eyes and mouth. The micro laser damages the top layer of skin and even penetrates deeper into the skin layers, targeting the collagen layer beneath. Collagen is the building block of the skin and provides a scaffold to support the upper layers. When collagen begins to break down, skin begins to sag and wrinkle. But the micro-laser stimulates the collagen layer, encouraging new growth. This plumps and firms the skin naturally from the inside.

What to expect from a micro-laser peel

When you arrive for your micro-laser peel, you will sit in a plush exam chair. Dr. Foulk will apply a mild, topical anesthetic to your skin to keep you comfortable. He will then apply the Sciton micro-laser to the areas you wish to have treated. Depending on what you wish to peel, your treatment may last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

After your treatment, you may have a little redness, but nothing compared to traditional peels or resurfacing. You will be completely healed and able to wear makeup within 48 hours. Over the following weeks, you will see your skin heal and plump, removing wrinkles and smoothing texture. Depending on the severity of your issues, you and Dr. Foulk may decide to follow up with two or three treatments until you have achieved your desired results.

To find out if a micro-laser peel is right for you, call Dr. Foulk, and make an appointment to discuss your options. Together you can select the procedure that will keep your skin healthy and beautiful.
